So You Got a Facial… Here is What to do Next

Getting a facial can be the ultimate time of self-care as you let a trained aesthetician work their magic on your skin. We recommend getting regular facials at a spa that uses COSMEDIX products to help enhance your skincare routine for the maximum results. However, ensuring that you are doing the right post-facial care can help ensure that your results from your facial last as long as possible. This week in the blog, we are going to be going through how to care for your skin after a facial to best support your complexion.

First Things First… Hydrate!

Whenever you first get a facial, your skin may be more sensitive due to extractions or products used on the skin. Because of this, we want to be gentle with the skin after a facial to help keep the skin soothed and hydrated. Keeping the skincare routine simple with a cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF is the best way to heal your skin post-facial. We recommend the following routine for at least three days after you receive a facial:

Step 1: Cleanse with Benefit Clean Gentle Cleanser to refreshes and awakens the skin by delicately removing impurities while helping to maintain the skin’s natural moisture barrier and soothing even the most sensitive skin. Perfect for everyday use and gentle enough for post-spa treatment sensitivity.

Step 2: Hydrate with Humidify Deep Moisture Cream to help moisturize the skin with long lasting hydration. Formulated with soothing ingredients such as Shea Butter and Colloidal Oatmeal, Humidify helps to smooth and soften the skin for a healthy-looking complexion.

Step 3 (AM only): Protect skin from potentially harmful UVA/UVB rays with Protect UV Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Moisturizing Spray. This SPF has a vitamin-rich formula that helps protect skin from environmental stressors, like pollution, and is free of alcohol and pore-clogging oils.

Up Next, Exfoliation

After you have gone at least three days using gentle skincare products, it is time to begin exfoliating the skin at home. Approximately one week after receiving a facial, your skin has begun shedding old skin so dull, dead skin can be replaced by newer skin cells. Your at-home exfoliation routine depends on your skin type and your skincare goals and can be done with a physical exfoliant or a chemical exfoliant. Physical exfoliants consist of something textured to remove dead skin, such as a scrub. Chemical exfoliants use a product that has exfoliating ingredients, such as Enzymes and Hydroxy Acids, to dissolve the dead skin away. We recommend the following products to add onto your gentle skincare routine to help exfoliate:

Physical: If you are looking for a physical exfoliant, we recommend Purity Detox Scrub Multi-Layer Detoxification System to mix with your Gentle Cleanser or water to gently cleanse and exfoliate skin.  Adding more water/cleanser will make the exfoliant gentler, while adding less water/cleanser will make the exfoliant more powerful.

Chemical: If you are interested in using a chemical exfoliant, we recommend Define Age-Defying Treatment with Hydroxy Acids and Retinol. This treatment gently exfoliates the skin to promote a smoother-looking texture with a skin-loving formula that is gentle enough for all skin types.

Post-Facial Glow

While it is only recommended to get a facial once a month, there are other ways to maintain the post-facial glow without going back to the spa. We recommend using a face mask as an at-home treatment in-between the time of your facials, approximately once a week. We have several masks to choose from depending on your skin type to help you meet your skincare goals.

If you have dry skin: Rescue is an Intense Hydrating Balm & Mask that helps rapidly relieve extremely dry, cracked or chapped skin with the help of powerful antioxidants that dramatically soothe, condition and comfort skin for a radiant, healthy-looking glow.

If you have congested skin: Detox Activated Charcoal Mask is formulated with Activated Charcoal and Kaolin Clay and is ideal for even the most sensitive skin. This clarifying face mask draws out daily impurities like oil, dirt, and dead skin, helping pores appear less visible and leaving your complexion looking and feeling clear and smooth.

If you want a glow: The best selling Glow Bamboo Brightening Mask helps revive tired, dull-looking skin without stripping away much-needed moisture. The gentle exfoliation helps skin absorb key brightening ingredients, which in turn helps improve skin texture and tone to reveal a smoother, brighter and more luminous-looking complexion.

Last but Not Least…

The final step to post-facial care after completing the steps of hydrating the skin, using a gentle skincare routine, applying gentle exfoliants, and using a mask is booking your next treatment! Aestheticians recommend getting a facial every month as the skin is made up of multiple layers and the top later needs to shed every 28-40 days.
